Today, Golden Boy Promotions held a conference call to promote the upcoming fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr and Shane Mosley. The conference call was centered around the trainers Roger Mayweather and Naazim Richardson.

During the call, reporters asked the trainers about Manny Pacquiao. In typical Mayweather fashion, Roger blasted Pacquiao with more accusations that Manny is on PEDs. Let’s examine further:

Question: Roger, how would you describe Manny Pacquiao? Is he just another good fighter to you?

“I don't know how good he is. I can't say how good he is because every time I see him fighting he must have something in his system. Anytime a guy doesn't want to take a test, that tells you already about the guy. How's a guy going to talk about how good he is or how great he is and the guy won't even take a test. He won't even take a blood test, so you tell me how good Manny Pacquiao is. You tell me because you asked me the question.” Roger Mayweather

Once again, a Mayweather misconstrues the facts. Manny publicly stated that he would take blood tests.

"I’m not against Blood testing. Just not the day of the fight. I’ve had that happen in the (first) Morales fight. I lost that fight and my body felt very weak. I don’t feel I recovered. That is why I don’t want blood testing close to the fight.” Manny Pacquiao, Fightfan.com

The disagreement came when Floyd wanted tests up to 14 days within the fight and Manny wanted up 24 days within the fight. This in no way equates that Manny doesn’t want to take blood tests.

Last year, Manny Pacquiao took a blood test 24 days before his fight with Hatton. This year, Manny took a blood test about 20 days before his fight with Clottey. It’s not a matter of Manny not wanting to take blood tests; it’s a matter of how close to the fight he will agree to take a blood test.

It was after this question that the conference call started shifting focus toward Manny Pacquiao. Richard Schaefer, CEO of Golden Boy Promotions, had to jump in and try to stop the questions about PacMan.

“Forget Pacquiao. Don't even talk about Pacquiao. We are promoting a fight between two of the greatest fighters which are Sugar Shane Mosley and Floyd Mayweather.”

Barry McMichael Sacramento, CA “How funny was it when Schaefer jumped into to stop the conference call from shifting attention to Pacquiao?”

I thought it was comical. But, it was also smart. You don’t want to have your conference call end up centering on a guy who’s not even in the fight being promoted.

David Forbes Sacramento, CA “Will the Mayweathers ever stop accusing Manny of taking PEDs?”

I honestly don’t think they will. Even if Manny agrees to their testing demands, I’m sure they will still say that the reason it has taken this long for Manny to agree is because he had to get all of the PEDs out of his system.
